Is anyone startled by the great lengths couples go through to conceive?

Why don't they adopt as there are many children that need homes? Is it more difficult to adopt? Is it social programming to procreate and have your OWN baby? All of the of above -none of the above or what do you think? Is anyone startled by the great lengths couples go through to conceive?
I think that many people feel a great loss if they can't conceive. I feel like the adoption fees and the hoops you have to go through really limit the number of people willing to do it. It is easy to say people should adopt, but their feelings about it should be honored. Is anyone startled by the great lengths couples go through to conceive?
Some people want to go through the whole process of pregnancy; there's something appealing in carrying a child yourself and actually giving birth to it, and knowing that he or she is really a part of you and your partner.

People fear adoption for a couple of reasons. First, there are so many stories (accurate or not) about the social problems that adopted children have later in life, with fitting in with their adopted families and cultures, and anger issues over being given up by their birth families. Some children up for adoption have issues with drug or alcohol addiction at birth, which can make everything difficult later on in life.

People are also afraid that they won't be able to love a child who is ';someone else's'; as much as they would love a child who is genetically theirs. I believe it is biological programming to want to have a tiny version of yourself, and an adopted child may not necessarily fit that desire.
I agree. I have a friend who gave birth to 2 preemies that lived about 10 minutes. She is pregnant again. Her lining is thin. She had surgery this time when they first found out. If this baby dies as well, can you imagine. There is some baby out there that could have been in a loving home. I don't get it.
i think the drive to procreate is one of the strongest instincts in the world..all animals do it, all species do...its the instinct to prepetuate your own kind-without this, species would dye off...sometimes i think people need to have that fullfilling of creation..,of life and gift.i dont nessesarily think its a programming, but an individuals instincts and hopes..
Yeah and it kinda makes me sad that people with lots of money who want a child can't have one while poor unemployed lazy people who don't want or need kids pop them out constantly, which is what creates a need for adoption. That's the real tragedy here.
